Work Incentive Implementation
If
you are working, or considering returning to work, there are several
SSA programs offering work incentives which can extend your cash
benefits and medical coverage. A Community Work Incentive
Coordinator (CWIC) can help you to better understand your work
incentive options and how working will affect your benefits.
What
are Work Incentives?
The
Social Security Administration provides various work incentives in
order to ease the transition to work. Some of the work incentives
that are available are:
-
9
month Trial Work Period
-
Extended Period of Eligibility
-
Subsidy
-
Student Earned Income Exclusion
-
Impairment Related Work Expense
-
Continued Medicare
-
Extended Medicaid
Benefits Planning is for you if:
-
You
are a young adult transitioning from high school to work or
college.
-
You
want to build your knowledge about benefits for which you may be
eligible.
-
You
want to make informed decisions about work.
-
You
want to see if you are able to increase your net income.
-
You
want to work, or increase the numbers of hours you work.
-
You
want a better understanding of how working affects your
benefits.
-
You
want to know how earnings from employment affect other benefits.
The
Challenge:
Persons with disabilities continue to experience underemployment and
unemployment at an unacceptable rate. Studies indicate that about
70% of persons with disabilities are unemployed nationwide.
The Opportunity:
Various SSA work incentives are available to SSI recipients & SSDI
beneficiaries. Recent statistics indicate that only 1/2 of 1% of
persons with disabilities receiving SSDI return to work and become
ineligible for benefits.
The Focus
The
focus of the program is to help people with disabilities make
informed choices about work, afford them the opportunity to be a
part of the working community, and to help them become
self-sufficient through the use of work incentives.
Areas Covered:
Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Stafford, Prince William, Manassas,
Manassas Park, Orange, Greene, Madison, Culpeper, Rappahannock,
Fauquier, King George, Caroline, Richmond County, Westmoreland,
