Independent Living Skills (Life Skills) Training
People with disabilities
often have difficulty in performing activities of daily living that others
take for granted. "Activities of daily living" include everything
from getting up in the morning and getting in bed at night, and everything
in between. Cooking and cleaning, personal grooming, use of public
transportation, budgeting or balancing a checkbook, engaging in hobbies
or recreational activities... all of these things and more may take a little
more time, or may take a whole new way of doing things.
The disAbility Resource Center assist members with setting and achieving
individual goals in these areas at home, at work and the community.
We can link people up with others who have the same interests, to make
learning and doing together more fun and more productive.
Sometimes people
need different kinds of devices to assist: a brace to hold an eating utensil
or a toothbrush, an ergonomic teapot, brailled or large print cookbooks
and so on. We can help people find this kind of equipment to make
it easier for them to do things for themselves.
