"Providing Free Adaptive Medical Equipment for People with
Disabilities"
The struggle to regain physical mobility and independence after a
serious illness or injury can be the most challenging experience of
a lifetime. For many, recovery requires a reliance on specialized
equipment to help them achieve their fullest potential. This
equipment can mean the difference between living independently and
productively or living a life of dependence and immobility.
The disAbility Resource Center, in collaboration with sister
organizations, has a program that provides persons with disabilities
assistive equipment at no cost. Very often there is no insurance or
insurance will not pay for bedside commodes, bath seats or certain
types of wheelchairs, walkers, ramps, etc. In most cases consumers
are on very limited incomes and cannot afford these necessary items
that are essential for independent living. Most consumers need
support now. Fortunately, hope is here; it's The
Equipment Connection.
The Equipment Connection accepts donations of gently used or brand
new durable medical equipment to be disbursed to those in need.
This program is designed to bridge the gap and provide for those
needing immediate support. This need is only going to increase as
medical costs rise and benefits are reduced.
